Founded in 2011, thecryout is a social project that aims to foster dialogue and community among progressively minded young adults. It is both a call to arms and an ideological landing pad for those who believe in the power of thoughtful, creative discourse. The topics explored here will range from the serious to the lighthearted to the downright bizarre, but all of them will bear relevance to the members of the 20/30something demographic and the challenging global landscape that we face today. It will make you laugh. It will make you sob. At the very least, it will make you think.
This site looks like a blog and talks like a blog, but it is so much more than that, or at least it hopes to be. With a little luck and the proper amount of seasoning, thecryout will ultimately evolve into a kind of generational forum that will lend a voice to those with something interesting and positive to add. And when you really think about it, that group includes all most of us.
Who are we? Where do we come from and where are we going? How do we define happiness and success in a world of disintegrating economies and insipid reality television? These are just some of the many issues we will tackle together. Beyond this handful of points, it can’t be said with any real certainty what this thing is or what it will become in the future. So basically I’m just going to start writing, and then maybe you will start contributing, and then maybe this humble little endeavor will take on a life of its own.
In any case, I’m Damon and this is thecryout. Let the wailing begin.
